White Water Sports

The White Water Park will be the venue for the adrenalin generating sports of:
  • Canoe Slalom

Slalom is an Olympic sport. West Australian Slalom paddlers have performed exceptionally well internationally. Robin Bell, a West Aussie, represented Australia in the Olympic Slalom event at the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games and is the current World Champion.

Slalom, which requires great white water skills, involves a timed race over about 300 metres of rapids and other fast white water features. Paddlers must negotiate a course prescribed by gates suspended over the water. Penalties are incurred if any of the gates are touched or missed.

  • Freestyle

Freestyle requires the competitor to perform as many tricks as possible on a wave in a prescribed period. Points are awarded for style, range of tricks, skill and degree of difficulty.

  • Wildwater Racing

Wildwater Racing involves sprinting down white water rapids in fast and not very stable canoes or kayaks. Fastest wins. Wildwater Racing is an ideal preparation for the Avon Descent.

  • Canoe Polo

Canoe Polo is water polo played in kayaks on flat water. It is fast, furious, skilful and great fun.

Instruction and coaching will be available in all of these sports. It will cater for all levels from beginners to elite. Recreational paddlers who like a bit of competition will also be warmly welcomed.

Competitions in all of these sports will be conducted regularly. These competitions will range from local and club events, through to Schools Championships, State and National Championships and international events such as World Cups and World championships.

Because of the international standing the White Water Park will gain, together with our very pleasant climate, many national teams from around the world will come to the Park to train.

White water sports at the White Water Park will provide an exhilarating and very satisfying way to develop fitness and enhance your self-esteem together with the opportunity to represent WA and Australia.
