Economic Benefits
Domestic market
Market research indicates that the White Water
Park will attract several hundred thousand users per annum representing
a potential market of millions of dollars.
Tourism
The White Water Park would attract many thousands
of tourists who could bring over $2 million to the region per annum.
There is also the opportunity to grow the tourist market. Currently
only 6% of international visitors to WA do day tours or visit theme
parks. In Queensland the figure is 25%.
International events
The White Water Park will attract international
events in the sports of Canoe Slalom, Freestyle, Wildwater Racing
and Canoe Polo. There will be regular World Canoe Slalom Cup events
and it could be expected to host World Canoe Slalom Championships.
These events will provide excellent media coverage for the White
Water Park and surrounding areas as well as bringing in a significant
economic return.
Employment and training
It is expected that the White Water Park will
provide full and part time employment for over 100 people.
Canoeing Western Australia will provide training
for employment in the outdoor recreation industry using the nationally
accredited Australian Canoeing Award Scheme programs for both flat
and whitewater.
The Guide and Instructor qualifications are
the national standard for employment in the water-based sections
of the rapidly growing outdoor recreation industry.
The Australian Moving Water Safety Centre
It is proposed to
establish The Australian Moving Water Safety Centre at the Whitewater
Park.
Its goal will be to reduce accidents and deaths
in moving water.
It will provide training in safe practice in
moving water and rescue techniques for emergency moving water rescues.
It will train rafting guides and other groups such as Avon Descent
rescuers etc. These skills have great relevance to some of the training
needs of the State Emergency Services, the Fire Brigade, Armed Forces,
Police, Avon Descent rescuers, rafting guides and some industry
groups.
It is intended to develop the Centre
so it becomes Australian best practice and have export potential
to the eastern states and Asia.
