Community Benefits
Recreation
The White Water Park
will provide exciting recreational opportunities in white water
body boarding, rafting and canoeing. A Spray Park is planned for
younger children This will have jets of water for children to play
in but with a porous base so there will be no surplus water lying
on the ground.
The Park will be open during summer evenings,
probably have an amphitheatre for performances and be a great place
for a BBQ while watching the action. It will have a restaurant/café
that overlooks the major rapids and gives a commanding view of the
best action.
School use
The White Water Park will attract participation
from a large number of High Schools in the metropolitan area.
Community health
Did you know?
- Physical inactivity is the
second leading contributor to disease in Australia.
- The annual direct health care
cost to Australia of physical inactivity is over $350 million
per year.
- The annual direct health care
cost to Western Australia of physical inactivity is over $36 million
per year.
- Currently only 55% of Western
Australians are sufficiently active to gain a health benefit.
- 31.8% of WA population has
insufficient levels of physical activity.
- 34.7% of WA population is classified
as overweight.
A Community Paddle Centre
that would address key community issues is
proposed for the White Water Park. It would offer:
- programs that are designed
specifically to address local community health issues. These would
be participation programs in both flat and white water. Flat water
programs would include basic skill development, paddling tours
on interesting waterways and coaching in the sports of Sprint,
Marathon and Canoe Polo. White water coaching will include Canoe
Slalom, Freestyle and Wildwater racing;
- programs in white water canoeing,
rafting and body boarding aimed at providing an exciting and enjoyable
way of improving health and fitness;
- coaching for those wishing
to continue further with canoe sports and aspiring to elite levels.
It will have a major focus on youth.
Training and preparation for employment
- Canoeing Western Australia will provide
training for employment in the outdoor recreation industry using
the nationally accredited Australian Canoeing Award Scheme programs
for both flat and whitewater. The Guide and Instructor qualifications
are the national standard for employment in the water-based sections
of the rapidly growing outdoor recreation industry.
